Entropion Repair

Entropion is the turning of the lower eyelid inward toward the eyeball. This is most commonly the result of previous surgery of the lower eyelid, most commonly blepharoplasty with an inappropriately closed incision inside the eyelid. Chronic exposure of the eye to the eyelashes results in irritation and can sometimes lead to serious complications, including corneal ulceration and vision loss.

Surgical repair of entropion usually involves skin or mucous membrane (lining from the cheek or nose) grafting to the upper lid which allows a release of scar tissue and the lid to fall forward, away from the eyeball itself. Recovery is usually well-tolerated, as the surgery is performed on a same-day-surgery basis. Sutures are usually dissolvable, although some may be removed in the office over the next week or so.
